About

Hi there! Welcome to Food, Fitness, and Faith. This is my little corner of the internet and I’m so happy you stopped by!

I’m Amanda. A journalism major and aspiring food writer. With a childhood nickname like Bottomless Pit, it’s no surprise to hear I’ve got a healthy appetite. I’m also a big fan of: black coffee, A-line dresses, farmers markets, too much television, Harry Potter, being barefoot, scented candles, getting up before the sun rises, and Glen Miller.

So, what’s it mean?

Food: Food is my life. That sounds dramatic, and it is, but it’s also true. My family is connected through food and I make new friends with a fresh batch of scones. I cannot give enough credit to my Grandma Marion, without whom I wouldn’t be where I am today. My first food memories are of standing next to her on a stool in her log cabin’s tiny kitchen. We would churn out the best buttermilk pancakes for all my uncles, aunts, and cousins at an alarming rate. Since then, she’s handed down countless tips and tricks, her mother’s recipe collection and a plethora of vintage aprons.

Even though I can’t get through breakfast without thinking about what I’m going to have for lunch, my past with food hasn’t always been positive. I’m recovering from an eating disorder and fight every day to become happier and healthier. I hope to one day share more about my story and my journey and help those who suffer from disordered eating.

Fitness: It started in the first grade. I was on an after-school soccer team and we used plastic lawn chairs to mark off the goals. My mom and grandpa came to watch and we won. After that, I was hooked. I played defense for 10 years and am proud of my throw-ins, though I couldn’t score a goal if my life depended on it. Soccer was a gateway sport for so much more. I’m lucky enough to have a mentor who doubles as a personal trainer and he’s instilled a love of kettlebells (and a fear of stopwatches) in me that is unparalleled. I get bored on treadmills and would rather flip a tractor tire than be caught dead in a weight room. I am constantly reading and researching new workouts and fitness techniques. I am by no means a professional. I believe in an active lifestyle for everyone and that seesaw lunges are the work of a dark and terrible power.

Faith: Compared to my other two passions, my faith is incredibly new. I was born and raised Catholic and went to a Catholic grade school, but I never felt a real connection to anything I was taught. I had never heard of a loving and merciful God. I didn’t think I was worthy. Then, almost a year ago, something changed. Something clicked. And instantly, I knew. My worth is in Christ. I am new through Him. Everyday is a learning experience and brings me closer to God. Faith takes work and willingness, but it is the most rewarding thing I could do.

So, this little blog here is going to be where I write about my attempt to find balance in my life through my passions of Food, Faith, and Fitness.

Feel free to stay awhile and look around, or find me on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram.
